“Slasher” is written by Chris Smith, the editor of VILLAGE VOICE. Unlike the other books about William Perry, the Tipton Slasher, this tells the story of Perry away from the boxing ring and uncovers many aspects of his life that had hitherto not been recorded.
The Slasher’s story is real rags-to-riches-to-rags saga with many twists and turns. The book also looks at some of the fascinating characters - including the world’s best paid actress and the most famous author of the time - with whom this uneducated man from Tipton regularly associated… and not forgetting his manager who rode in the Grand National, featured in an important trial of the day and committed suicide in public!
The price is £8.99 and, for a limited time, this includes postage and packing from Arcos Design, 50 Redhall Road, Gornal Wood, Dudley DY3 2NL.

IN OUR TIME
Another well-known local personality is Graham Fisher MBE who, until recently was perhaps particularly associated with the canal network in and around the Midlands and he has published several books about the topic. One of his other loves, however, is glass and he has become the public spokesman for the BGF—the British Glass Foundation. As the BGF’s PR man he has been responsible for publishing a series of newsletters called “Glasscuts” and one in particular—number 34—featured the celebrated 2012 Portland Vase Project which saw the creation of a facsimile of this beautiful Roman vase which is in the British Museum. A new book has been published which not only reproduces the newsletter but also includes additional contributions from Graham himself as well as the Project Co-ordinator and Chairman of the BGF. If you thought that the Stourbridge glass industry had died prepare to be surprised and amazed at just how vibrant it is still.
